The Black Lumberjack

Tonya curled up into a ball on the floor in her room and cried. She wondered why she even returned to see The Mayor. She was just so tired of running. It seemed that The Mayor wouldn't stop looking for her. She had to constantly worry about Black Lumberjack's and her safety.
Yesterday, while Black Lumberjack was away on a logging trip she called The Mayor and told him that she needed to see him, because she thought that she could convince The Mayor to stop looking for her and to let her move on with her life. She quickly found out however, that there was no reasoning with him. She tried to tell The Mayor about her love for the Black Lumberjack, with hopes that he would let her be. However this just infuriated him.

"I knew that you'd come crawling back to me." The Mayor snarled as Tonya entered into the room.

"I'm not coming back to you, I want you to let me live my life, and to stop harassing us!"

"So, you think you're in love with this Lumberjack?!" The Mayor asked Tonya, his back facing her.
"You want to live the rest of your life with this Lumberjack?!" The Mayor's voice rose with each question.

Tonya didn't back down.

"Yes, I love him!" She yelled back. "I want you to leave us the hell alone!"

The Mayor laughed, and turned around to face Tonya. He then proceeded to smack Tonya across her face.
"You have, and always will belong to me! If you ever try to leave me or get in touch with this Lumberjack again...I'll find him and kill him!"

"Please no!" Tonya sobbed. "Please don't hurt him; I'll do whatever you want!"

"You can start by putting this on!" He threw a dress at her.
"You're working tonight!" "Now get out of my sight!"
"Frank, show our old guest to her room!"

One of the Mayor's men then proceeded to take Tonya to where the other girls were staying.

Not wanting to risk Black Lumberjack's life, Tonya didn't risk calling him for over a month. She knew that The Mayor's patience with her was running thin, and so was her time. She had to call him soon. She overheard The Mayor's men telling him that the Lumberjack moved to the city and was asking a lot of questions around town about her whereabouts. This was all Tonya needed to hear. She snuck into the only room she knew had a phone...The Mayor's. She was able to get Black Lumberjack's number from the operator and dialed.

"Hello?... Baby it's me."
"I can't talk now, but I'm okay."
Suddenly the door opened and Mayor walked into the room.
"I can't...Click..."
Mayor hung up the phone...

Cutting Room Floor

It may come as a surprise to those that have seen The Big Lebowski that The Dude, Walter and Donny are never shown bowling. I think the film works perfectly well as it is. Still, when I located footage this weekend of The Dude and Walter bowling after scattering Donny's ashes I was touched to see them join together in the healing powers of rolling. This cut scene is bookended in the script between Walter's post eulogy bear hug scene with The Dude and the bar scene with The Stranger.

WALTER: Awww, fuck it Dude. Let's go bowling.

Cut to the lanes. The Dude and Walter Bowling. We watch each of them glide across the floor, release, follow through--gracefully. We have never seen them bowl before. They are quite good. Each wears a black armband on his bowling shirt.

Cut to bar area. The Dude walks up to the bar.

The Black Lumberjack

Black Lumberjack calls two of his buddies, Floyd and Ronnie. They co-owned the body shop called "I Got Five on It" where Black Lumberjack's Monster Truck was built.

"Hello... Floyd"?
"Yo, Black Lumberjack, it's good to hear from you brother"! "Man I haven't heard from you in a minute". "How are things going, how are you holding up"?
"I received a call from Tonya, she's alive man, and I gotta find her!" I think she's in with some bad company, and I can't get her back without your help." "What do you know of this Mayor guy?

Man, that cat was in here a month ago! He wanted us to "pimp" his ride... so we painted his Cadillac "Grimace Purple" and put some new D's on.

This guy is tough man, going up against him and his guys would be dangerous. Regardless though, me and Ronnie got your back." "What do you want us to do"?
"Meet me at my cabin tonight at 7pm".

Black Lumberjack hangs up with Floyd. Those two guys would do anything for Black Lumberjack. They had been friends ever since they were young.

Suddenly there's a knock on his door...he looks out the window and sees an enormous man standing on his porch. Black Lumberjack grabs his axe and heads towards the door.
Black Lumberjack swings the door wide open, and there stood a man wearing a Sumo Finals T-Shirt and flip-flops. "Chris, what are you doing here?!" Black Lumberjack shouted.

"Well, I'm finally finished with the World Sumo Wrestling Circuit in Tokyo. You are looking at the new World Champ!" "By the way, you can call me by my new name, Black Sumo!" "Also, word on the street is that you're in a little trouble. So your biggest little brother is here to help out. So, now when do we get to bust some heads?!"

"Real soon bro, real soon..."

Cutting Room Floor

The handheld movie camera continues to capture every moment as the group walks towards midtown attempting to save Beth from her collapsing apartment. They all stop abruptly when after turning a corner the camera frames a giant hand picking up an M1 Abrams tank. The giant holds the tank gently and pauses as if it were a cell phone he was just handed by his sister to be able to wish his grandma happy birthday at that very moment. The camera shakes as the earth begins to quake violently. Everyone holds their ears when a deafening shriek is heard as if amplified from above. The peaceful giant casually looks over his shoulder at the source of this commotion and for the first time the group clearly sees the head of the monster. The peaceful giant looks down at the group as if to say, "I'm going to see what I  can do to help set this situation right." The group turns and runs as fast as they can from the ensuing chaos.

This scene featuring the actor known only as Brodsky was cut from the theatrical release but is expected to be included and expanded upon in Cloverfield 2 which is rumored to be told from the perspective of another group carrying a handheld movie camera during the events of the first film. Three frames of this scene are shown in "Document 01.18.08: The Making of Cloverfield" feature of the special edition dvd. Hit pause at minute 7:43 and scan forward slowly.

The Black Lumberjack

Black Lumberjack woke up in what seemed to be the men's bathroom.

The bathroom was covered with posters from random movies. He noticed the Ghostbusters movie poster right away because it was different from the rest.

"Man, how long have I been out?" He said to himself.
He started towards the door and stopped suddenly when he heard voices.
"We put him in the bathroom"
"Just get rid of him will ya!"
Black Lumberjack peeked out the door and saw the bartender talking to a cop, while pointing in the direction of the bathroom. Black Lumberjack shuts the door. He quickly looked around for his axe, but it was gone.
"I have to get out of here!"
He eyed a window on the other side of the bathroom, opened it and hopped out onto the street below. Luckily his truck was parked across the street. He jumped in and sped off.
Black Lumberjack had to find this Mayor person right away. All he wanted to do was get Tonya back. He looked up into his rearview mirror and saw that the cop from the bar had been following him and was telling him to pull over.... Black Lumberjack takes a sip of his coffee and shakes his head. He had been through a lot these last couple of days. He finishes his coffee and gets up from the table.
"This plot is a lot deeper than I thought".
"The Mayor's guys want to get rid of me, the Police are corrupt and now probably looking for me."
Suddenly irate, Black Lumberjack says,
"I'm just gonna have to get at them first"!
However, as angry as Black Lumberjack was, he knew he couldn't get Tonya back without some help. He made some friends over the years and he was going to have to call in some favors.

The telephone rings prompting Janine Melnitz to abandon the task of painting her nails.

Janine Melnitz: Hello, Ghostbusters. Listen, you're gonna have to speak up! I can't hear you! Of course we're serious. Rockefeller Center? Help is on the way.

Dr. Ray Stantz: Who was it?

Janine Melnitz: Something is chopping the SNL sets to bits at Studio 8H!

Dr. Ray Stantz: What could it be?

Cut to the Ecto-1 speeding out of the firehouse. Cut to Dr. Ray Stantz, Dr. Egon Spengler, Dr. Peter Venkman and Winston Zeddemore climbing the stairs of the GE Building. Pan from Ghostbusters standing in the entrance of Studio 8H to a wrecked Saturday Night News stage set. A silhouette of a man is cut into the map of the United States behind the news anchor desk. Venkman, Spengler and Zeddemore walk through the silhouette. Stantz turns around and is surprised to find he is not alone.

Although Dan Akroyd wrote the character of Dr. Peter Venkman for John Belushi his plans were changed with Belushi's untimely death in 1982. Akroyd's close association with Saturday Night Live made him aware of practice footage for an unaired Belushi skit entitled "Samurai Mechanic." Director Ivan Reitman and Akroyd adapted the script and worked closely with the visual effects team in an attempt to incorporate this footage into the film but were ultimately unhappy with the results and decided to cut the scene from the film.

The Black Lumberjack

It was about two in the afternoon when Black Lumberjack showed up at Downtown Lounge. The place was empty with the exception of a local who was sitting at the bar sipping on some whiskey and talking to the bartender. Black Lumberjack went right up to the bartender and waited impatiently for the conversation to end. The bartender, taken aback by the image of the large axe welding black man, asked the Lumberjack,
"Can I help you?"
Black Lumberjack pushed a photo of Tonya across the bar.
"Does the woman in this picture look familiar?" He questioned.
The bartender picks up the picture, glances at it quickly and gives it back.
"I've never seen her around here..." The bartender nervously said.
Black Lumberjack gave the bartender a skeptical look
"I asked you if she looks familiar and not if you've seen her around!"
He barked. Black Lumberjack then proceeds to catch a glance of a photo hanging behind the bar. The photo was of a man wearing expensive jewelry, and a purple suit with his arms around 3 women. He looks closer at the picture and sees that one of the women in the picture is Tonya! Black Lumberjack becomes enraged and in one motion jumps over the bar and onto the bartender.
"Where is she?" "When was this picture taken?" "Who's the man in the photo?"
He squeezed the handle of his axe up against the bartender's throat. "Okay, Okay, I'll tell you!" The bartender breathed.

The bartender being scared for his life says, "That man in the picture is Latroy Mason, a.k.a "The Mayor", he runs the South-side". As soon as the bartender told him this, Black Lumberjack then felt a sharp pain in the back of his head and collapsed. He caught a glimpse of the man sitting at the bar standing above him just as his eyes proceeded to close.

Cutting Room Floor

Several cast and crew members of Short Circuit have been quoted as saying the film could have been a strong Oscar contender in 1986. Though the final cut of Short Circuit is generally held in high regard, very few people are aware of the character depth afforded to the main cast in Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson’s original script.

Excised from the final cut of the film were all details of the abusive relationship Stephanie Speck had suffered with her ex-boyfriend Frank. Also excised were several destructive and deadly mistakes Number 5 made prior to meeting Stephanie. The tenderness she shows for Number 5 helps it learn to value the life of all creations and in the process of their spending time together she undergoes her own healing process. Not until the end of the film does she allow herself to become close with Newton Crosby. The first cut of the film closed with Stephanie, Johnny 5 and Newton starting a new life together on her father’s Montana farm. Given that the story was as much about Stephanie’s healing process as Johny 5’s redemption the closing shot was of Stephanie showing Johnny 5 how to milk a cow.

Being a huge fan and one of the few people to have seen their last show together at Max’s Kansas City director John Badham cut this scene, faded to black and rolled the credits over the The Velvet Underground song “Stephanie Says”. In an effort to please investors TriStar picture executives recut the film and replaced Badham’s score with a commissioned El DeBarge song entitled “Who’s Johnny” which has a decidedly different tone.

Excerpt from “Stephanie Says” – The Velvet Underground
Stephanie says that she wants to know
why she's given half her life,
to people she hates now
Stephanie says when answering the phone
what country shall I say is calling from across the world

But she's not afraid to die, the people all call her Alaska
Between worlds so the people ask her 'cause it's all in her mind
It's all in her mind

Excerpt from “Who’s Johnny?” - El Debarge
I try to understand because I'm people too
and playing games is part of human nature
My heart's in overdrive
It's great to be alive

"Who's Johnny?" she said
And smiled in her special way
"Johnny" she said" You know I love you"
"Who's Johnny?" she said and tried to look the other way
Her eyes gave her away

Girls like her are very special
Girls like her don't rest
'Till you too are a believer
'Till you too have caught their fever

The Black Lumberjack

Black Lumberjack wakes up, it's morning. "No coffee?" He wonders. He then realizes that Tonya is gone, it's actually been just about 2 months since she disappeared.

He goes into the kitchen, he finds and old can of Folgers. "This smells okay." He says to himself. Black Lumberjack makes himself some coffee and sits down at the kitchen table. Just 2 weeks ago at this time he was at his apartment in the city. He moved there to look for Tonya, or at least find some answers as to why and where she may have disappeared.

The police were simply no help, and on top of that, they hated the fact that Black Lumberjack was in their town asking questions.

Just when he had run out of leads, and seen nothing but dead ends, he received a phone call...The voice on the other end was whispering."Hello?... Baby it's me." Black Lumberjack was frozen as if he had just heard a ghost. It was Tonya, she was alive!
"I can't talk now, but I'm okay."
"Where are you?" Black Lumberjack demanded of her.
"I can't...Click..." She, or someone else hung up the phone.

But that was all Black Lumberjack needed. "She's alive...I knew it...She's alive!" He yelled.
"There has to be something I missed, someone that I didn't talk to!"... "Think! Think!"

Black Lumberjack paced his room going over all the clues and leads that he had. Suddenly it hits him. "I'll go to the bar where we first met!" He grabs his axe and runs out the door.

Cutting Room Floor

After successfully destroying the commercial towing vehicle Nostromo, Ripley casually undresses in preparation for hypersleep in its lifeboat. In the process of initializing the hypersleep sequence she is horrified to find the Alien a stowaway. Rushing to the fireman's pole she slides down to the main deck to don a space suit in the hopes opening the airlock and sucking the alien out into space.

Just for the record, most of this scene made it into the 1979 theatrical cut.
