The Data Book is an invaluable tool when planning ahead for for shelter, water sources, town stops, etc. It lists the exact mileage listings between each for those that would like to enjoy the wild without relying on technologies like GPS. Used in tandem with section maps for the fourteen states the Appalachian Trail passes through and the 2" wide x 6" tall white blazes painted on trees along the trail anyone should be able to find their way. Off we go.

Are those just random cabins set up along the way?
Man the idea of hiking the entire trail seem really cool at first. That last panel seems sadly lonely to me though. I wonder if our hero is looking for, or running from, something in this story.
I heard a rumor that he's hunting the most dangerous game...Black Lumberjack.
Lean to shelters are set up about every ten miles. Some were built by the CCC and show their age but others were built with money from companies like LL Bean or REI and have deluxe accomodations. More on that later.
